For the 2026/2027 school year the CVU Band Program will consist of three curricular ensembles: Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Symphonic Winds, as well as a co-curricular Jazz Ensemble. Students in all ensembles are invited to participate in at least three yearly concerts, outreach performances at local schools and community events, and state-wide and regional festivals.
Concert Band is open to students in grades 9-12, and meets as a class during regular school hours. The main goal of this course is to provide a supportive community for developing as ensemble musicians. There will be a focus on refining performance skills and developing knowledge of basic music theory to support long-term growth and enjoyment of music. Percussion Ensemble is open to students in grades 9-12, and meets as a class during regular school hours. Music varies in style and level of difficulty. The main goal of this course is to develop fundamental skills of technique on a variety of percussion instruments, ensemble playing, and music literacy. All skill levels are encouraged to register. Symphonic Winds is open to students in grades 10-12 who have had at least one year of Concert Band, and meets as a class during regular school hours. Music varies in style and level of difficulty. The main goals of this course are to refine advanced ensemble skills and support increased levels of independence and self-direction. This course is designed for students who are very serious about musical performance, and it is meant to prepare students for a college-level ensemble experience. Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned, co-curricular ensemble that performs a variety of styles within the jazz idiom. This ensemble meets throughout the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school and performs at various local events and festivals, including the Discover Jazz Festival in Downtown Burlington.
