The CVU Band Program consists of three curricular bands: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Symphonic Winds, as well as a co-curricular Jazz Ensemble. Students in all ensembles are invited to participate in at least three yearly concerts, outreach performances at local schools and community events, state-wide and regional festivals, and yearly performance tours.
Concert Band meets as a class during regular school hours. Music varies in style and level of difficulty. The main goal of this course is to prepare students for lifelong involvement with music. To this end, there will be focus on refining performance skills and developing knowledge of basic music theory.
Symphonic Band meets as a class during regular school hours. Music varies in style and level of difficulty. The main goal of this class is to further students' knowledge in music and to bring students to a level of proficiency in musical performance.
Symphonic Winds meets as a class during regular school hours. Music varies in style and level of difficulty. The main goal of this course is to develop and refine advanced ensemble skills. This course is designed for students who are very serious about musical performance, and is to meant prepare students for a college-level ensemble experience. Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned, co-curricular ensemble that performs a variety of styles within the jazz idiom. This ensemble meets throughout the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school and performs at various local events and festivals, including the Discover Jazz Festival in Downtown Burlington.
